Diabetic Cake Recipes - Guide to Low Sugar Intake

When you are suffering from diabetes it is important to stock up certain items that will not let you feel left out at family celebrations or if possible give yourself a treat now and again. The sugar free diabetic cake mix should be a regular item in the pantry to make your desserts or even use in order to lower the sugar intake for other people in the family. On the other hand, even though you are using this sugar free mix you definitely don't want this dessert to come out tasting like the regular diet treats.

If you need guidance when making your cakes and desserts, the following suggestions will be able to have them tasting more the like the actual treats all the time.

\"Cake Recipes\"

First, simply by making use of applesauce as a fractional alternative for the cooking oil whenever you are creating delights from the sugar free mix this could aid in the reduction of both the fat and sugar within the particular recipe. The end result will enhance the taste and make it more desirable for both dieters and diabetics. The applesauce will enhance the actual texture but you should not go over the top with it, this substitute should be about half the quantity of the cooking oil and you will receive the best results.

Diabetic Cake Recipes - Guide to Low Sugar Intake

An additional strategy to enhance your cake mix will be to utilize a flavorsome dessert blend having absolutely no sugar in order to make layers in this cake. Generally, the basic sugar-free cakes might taste bland, but when you add a flavorful and creamy dessert blend somewhere between, such as a lemon cake mixes it will add some appeal. Additionally, you could create sugar free icing from one of the dessert mixes, such as this, simply by combining and preparing this in accordance to the actual directions on the package; this could then mix into a cool whip. You could include an additional dessert blend if you wish, by using an extra egg which will give you a moist rich pudding.

There is also the option of adding a can fruit to the particular sugar free mix and this can include crush peaches, mangoes or pineapples. The ideal fruit mix should be packed in water instead of syrup, because you want to use less sugar and the syrup will definitely add more calories and sugar. You might be thinking that the fruit will be sweet as well, but you have to understand that the fruit will add just the right amount of moisture and natural sweet taste to this dry or bland cake mix.

In conclusion, you could utilize fresh fruit juice as an alternative to the milk or water with the sugar free diabetic cake mix. The defrosting of orange concentrate will be a great technique in order to include a lemon flavor, which usually goes nicely with chocolate cake. If you like, you could also use vanilla flavoring or apple juice along with an angel food cake blend to include a subtle apple taste. All of this is just a few simple ways to really improve your diabetic cake mix, so you won't feel deprive or left out of the festivities.

When deciding on what cake recipe you would like to create you must keep in mind that there are two types of cake - butter and foam. Butter cakes are made with butter or shortening and foam cakes are made with eggs or egg whites. These two categories are just the general, umbrella, or catch-all terms. There are actually dozens or even hundreds of variations on cakes that you can learn about and enjoy.

Butter cakes are light and fine textured, while foam cakes are fluffy. Foam cakes can be angel food, chiffon or sponge, depending on your preference. Both form the basis for most cake recipes with variations and special touches adding to the taste and presentation.

Wedding Cake Recipes Sweeter Than Sweet - Cheap Wedding Cake Mixes & Tasty Ingredient Ideas

How important is the wedding cake. I am afraid I can't answer this, however if we stay with tradition then it's essential to have a wedding cake if it is a perfect wedding you desire. And isn't this what every bride-to-be wants "perfection." If you've asked this question because you're not fond of the ingredients included in a traditional wedding cake then you don't have to have them. Wedding cakes can be tailor designed around your wants with ingredients and decoration of your own personal choosing.

For the perfect wedding add a wedding cake to your wedding to-do-list.

\"Cake Recipes\"

Preferences for wedding cakes will differ, as they do with wedding dresses, wedding music, wedding locations and wedding guests because people have different likes and dislikes. Nonetheless in most cases the bride and groom always get what they want. The cake is the main focus of the wedding reception making a fabulous centerpiece. Choosing the right wedding cake is important for guests that have a sweet tooth because their focus will be on the cake at all times.

Wedding Cake Recipes Sweeter Than Sweet - Cheap Wedding Cake Mixes & Tasty Ingredient Ideas

There is more to choosing a wedding cake than just pointing to a picture and agreeing that is what you want. Things need to be considered that are often overlooked like the color of the icing and cake design to match your wedding gown or theme. The ingredients used to bake the cake are also very important indeed; after all we have a lot of people to please.

Make light work of choosing your wedding cake and follow the tips listed below. With this daunting prospect in mind, let us make your wedding cake planning less of a hassle.

First of all you need to be aware there is more than just taste and color of your cake to consider. Planning a wedding on a budget can cause issues regarding the cake but you shouldn't let this worry you. Cheap is just as tasty as expensive, and just as pretty too.

Before planning gets underway sit down with your partner and ask yourselves.

How much money your prepared to spend on your wedding cake, or if you`re counting the pennies then what type of cake you can afford?

The cake is to feed the mouths of many so plan the size of the cake around how many guests you're likely to invite.
Doing the above will save you money. Too much cake is a waste if you go for big. The type of wedding cake you can realistically have should be determined on the pointers mentioned above.

Choosing a wedding cake should have you think "shape, color, ingredients and decoration.

A great place to start for ideas on cake appearance is to browse pictures in magazines, books and wedding cake websites. Visit the bakery and see the real thing. This will give you the opportunity to talk about your desired cake.

It helps if you know the reason for wanting a wedding cake. Is it to use as a piece of eye candy. If so concentrate on design and prettiness.

If it's for hundreds of guests to feed on? Then size of the cake is important.

Do you want the wedding cake to match your color scheme, if so speak with the baker in advance so he/she can advise on what will work and ideally suited to your request?

In the world of wedding cakes decorations come in vast variety. Cake accessories like ribbons, flowers, wedding cake toppers, edible rosebuds to candles are a few to mention.

Most "essential" in any wedding cake is the flavor. You can have the loveliest creation made but what's the point of pretty without taste, it doesn't' make sense and neither does it make good eating. Traditionally wedding cake filling is fruit. But if you prefer chocolate as your selected flavor then there's no reason why you and your guests can't have chocolate.

Out with tradition to make way for new scrumptious wedding cake flavors eaten at weddings. The white wedding cake with white butter-cream icing is not as common as it was judging by modern day weddings.

Remember this is your day and your cake.

Cheesecake goes down well. It's an ideal choice for the not so grand wedding, but is fabulously appropriate and cheap for a small wedding. Meringues, baked Alaska, fruitcakes, chocolate cake, and angel food cake are also increasingly popular.

You never see a guest turn their nose up at carrot cake, is it because it's moist and spicy? Carrot cake is usually based on oil instead of butter. If you're not a lover of raisins you don't have to add them. Swap with pecans or walnuts. If you're doing your own decorating then cream over with white icing adding pecans here and there with other edible cake decorations.

Pumpkin cake another favored sweet confectionery. Decorate pumpkin cake with cranberry and greenery. At its best when iced with cranberry butter cream.

Chocolate-Raspberry - a yummy chocolate cake with a raspberry filling. Icing is chocolate butter cream. The cherry on the cake for the chocolate-raspberry (excuse the pun) is to pipe cream with chocolate curls and decorate with edible floral cake accessories. Pressed and crystallized flowers are fabulous cake decorations.

Do you think your guests will fancy a slice of coconut cream pound cake, if so do them a favor and serve up this cake because a little of what you fancy does you good.

Coconut Cream Pound Cake Recipe

Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before moving.

Another cake simple to make and goes down well with wedding guest and their gullets to is the (Easy Light Fruitcake.)

Ingredients
455 g candied cherries, halved
5 candied pineapple rings, finely minced
870 g golden raisins
360 g candied mixed fruit peel
170 g almonds
125 g all-purpose flour
455 g softened butter or margarine
400 g white sugar
Half a dozen eggs
5 ml vanilla extract
60 ml orange juice
625 g all-purpose flour
9 g baking powder
3 g salt
6 split almonds
Baking Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C). Line the bottom and sides of two greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pans, and 1 round 4 1/2 inch x 3 inch deep pan with brown paper. Grease the paper.

2. Mix cherries, minced pineapple pieces, raisins, mixed peel, 1 cup pecans, and 1 cup flour in a basin. Blend all ingredients until fully coated with flour and stand to aside

3. Using a separate bowl, cream the butter/margarine and sugar. Whisk in 1 egg at a time. Add orange juice and vanilla and stir. Take 5 cups flour, your baking powder and salt and add to creamy mixture. Add floured fruit and nuts. Carefully pour mix into baking pans. Fill each pan 3/4 full. Add split almonds over the top.

4. Usual baking time 3 hours. Pierce cake with a toothpick and if done the toothpick comes out clean. If the top of your cake darkens before the sides cover with foil.

My suggestion: plain sponge. Nearly every cake base is sponge mix. If a person says they don't like a particular cake, it means they're not fond of certain ingredients used to fancy up and flavor. Keeping it plain allowing your guest to choose their own fillings, is the key. Fill glass bowls with a variety of flavored fillings (chocolate sauce, custard, jelly, and butter cream, raisins, mixed fruit, syrup, treacle and different flavored jams and fruit sauces? Do this and your guests won't have to wait for you to turn your back before spitting out cake chosen by you.

Holiday Baking - Gumdrop Cake Recipes Worth Making

Now that the Holiday countdown has begun, our thoughts have turned to buying presents, pulling out the decorations and lights, making lists for our upcoming parties, and to Holiday baking.

My mother loved baking for the holiday season; when I was growing up, she started early in the fall, making light and dark fruitcakes that she prepared, steamed and baked then wrapped in aluminum foil before placing in ceramic crocks for six weeks or more, to allow the variety of flavours to meld together.

\"Cake Recipes\"

These days most of us don't have time to bake cakes that take hours to prepare and six weeks or more of maturing to be flavourful; I have mom's small, medium and large fruitcake pans with their removable bottoms but confess that I have never made fruit cake. But I have made many other recipes of hers, such as her Gumdrop Cake; this cake is a delicious choice for today's busy cook who still wants to serve special treats to family and friends during the holiday season. For those who like raisins, I'm also including a Gumdrop Cake recipe that not only uses this fruit for added flavour but also uses applesauce to replace the milk found in most cake recipes.

Holiday Baking - Gumdrop Cake Recipes Worth Making

If you're beginning your search for recipes to make this Holiday season jolly, please come back often to check out the cakes, cookies, squares, breads and other treats I'll be publishing in the upcoming weeks. Coffee Cake Recipes

Mention coffee cake and images of Grandma's house sitting around the table with a fresh baked streusel cake and lots of family chatter. It's doubtful that many of the cakes considered coffee cake today actually contain coffee. Some recipes do and some don't. Many consider a crumb cake served with coffee a coffee cake while others insist that the recipe contain coffee to be considered a coffee cake.

History

\"Cake Recipes\"

The coffee cake as it is today is an evolution across time and continents. Cakes have been being baked since the Biblical days of honey cakes. Next came what is known as the fruitcake, a culinary invention of the French known as galettes. These same galettes led to sweetened yeast breads or rolls which finally evolved into Danish coffee cakes that were made with coffee.

Coffee Cake Recipes

As time progressed and recipes changed and were handed down there were inevitable alterations. Perhaps more coffee was added or even taken out all together. By the time the late 1800's rolled around the coffee cake was a household name in America with countless numbers of recipes and variations with most being either streusel, crumb or streusel-crumb combination.

Today's coffee cake hasn't changed that much from those of the late 1800's. The recipes have been changed and there are literally thousands of variations, but overall, it is still either a crumb cake or a streusel cake or some combination. Add pot of piping hot coffee and no one really cares what it's called.

Following are two recipes for simple yet scrumptious coffee cakes. Bake one up and gather the family together and swap stories while enjoying great food and even greater company.

Bake in 350-degree oven for one hour or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Serves 10-12.

Chocolate Swirl Coffee Cake

* 1 cup sugar

Baking Without Gluten - Cake Recipes for Celiac Sufferers

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, often genetically inherited, in which the sufferers are intolerant of gluten. Celiac disease is caused by an abnormal reaction to gliadin, which is a gluten protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The only cure is abstinence from gluten, which means that a whole new method of eating has to be learned.

It can be said that if celiac sufferers avoid flour, they will be fine. Although this is simplistic, it is not far wrong. But celiac sufferers have birthdays and celebrations the same as anyone else. And that means they may want a cake now and then, even while avoiding flour.

\"Cake Recipes\"

It is possible to bake without flour and there is a whole range of products on the market for gluten-free alternatives. However, for various reasons, the products may not be viable alternatives: they may not be available locally; or they may be priced beyond your budget. For many people, adapting regular recipes has to be the answer. For those who wish to adapt mainstream recipes, I have provided a few recipes below.

Baking Without Gluten - Cake Recipes for Celiac Sufferers

Rice Pudding Cake

Despite its name, it is a firm and heavy moist cake, and it is full of flavor. It is firm enough to cut into large slices. I did not develop this recipe it was given to me over twenty years ago by a friend in Western Australia. Her daughter was gluten intolerant. It is still one of the nicest gluten-free cakes I have ever tasted.

Ingredients:

3 cups cooked rice

4 eggs, beaten

1/2 cup demerara sugar

2 medium bananas, mashed

2 apples, finely chopped or grated

1 pear grated

500g (1 pound) cottage cheese

2 cups mixed dried fruit

1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped

1/2 cup almonds or brazil nuts, roughly chopped grated rind of one large orange

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon all spice

Heat oven until 2200 C, 4000 F

Method:

Combine everything and mix well, and place in a greased bundt tin or a fluted ring tin to give the hole in the center. Bake for about half an hour until firm and cooked through. When a skewer comes out clean, the cake is cooked. Cool in the tin, refrigerate for a few hours, and then serve with cream.

Flourless Black Forest Gateaux

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream, or simply dusted with icing sugar. To keep this recipe totally flour free dust the tin with cacao.

Ingredients:

Cake:

4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup white sugar

1/2 cup cocoa powder

3 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Filling:

a jar of Morello or Sweet cherries in natural juice.

1 Tub of thick whipping cream.

Preheat oven to 3000degrees F or 1500 degrees C.

Method:

Grease an oblong Swiss roll tin, or a jelly pan and dust with cocoa powder. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over boiling water, but do not let the bowl touch the water. When the chocolate is melted, add the butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, and vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.

Place powdered sugar or cocoa powder on a piece of kitchen paper and place the cake on it. Drain the jar of morello cherries and whip the cream until it holds its shape; then add the cherries. Place on top of the cake and roll up like a roll. Top with grated chocolate and serve with cream.

Healthy Fruit Cake

This recipe makes an excellent cutting cake. To make a 11/2 lb cake in an 8" tin:

Ingredients:

1 large banana, as green as possible

1 large carrot, peeled and grated

2 eggs 100 ml olive oil

4 oz (100g)granulated sugar

1 table spoon of black treacle/ molasses

8 oz (200g)gluten free flour mix

1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda

1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar

1 level teaspoon of mixed spice

1 level teaspoon of ground ginger

1 level teaspoon of cinnamon

8 oz (200g) mixed dried fruit

several glace cherries green and red

Preheated oven, 350°F or 180°C

Method:

Beat the banana and carrot to a smooth puree with the olive oil, sugar and egg in a food processor. Add the flour and beat in. Add the treacle, spices, and raising agents and beat in. Add the fruit and beat in. Pour the mixture immediately into a deep 8" cake or 2 lb loaf tin lined with a layer of non-stick baking paper. Bake for 11/4 to 11/2 hours.

Chocolate Almond Gateau

Ingredients:

Cake:

110g/4oz best-quality dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa solids)

2 tablespoons white rum 110g/4oz whole almonds

110g/4oz butter, preferably unsalted

110g/4oz caster sugar, plus 1 tbsp extra, to mix with the egg whites

3 eggs, preferably free-range, separated

For the chocolate icing:

110g (4oz) best-quality dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa solids)

2 Tablespoons white rum

110g/4oz unsalted butter

To decorate:

crystallized violets

flaked almonds

You will also need 2 x 18cm/7in sandwich tins.

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Line the base of each of the tins with greaseproof paper. Brush the bottom and sides with melted butter and dust with a little rice flour. Melt the chocolate with the rum in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water or in a low oven. Bring a small saucepan of water to the boil and add the almonds. Bring back to the boil for 2-3 minutes and then test an almond to see if the skin is loose. Drain the almonds, peel and discard the skins. Grind the whole almonds in a food processor until they are slightly gritty.

Cream the butter and add the sugar. Beat until pale, light and soft. Beat in the egg yolks, one by one. Whisk the egg whites until stiff. Add the extra tablespoon of sugar and continue to whisk until stiff peaks form, then add the melted chocolate to the butter and sugar mixture. Divide the prepared almonds into four portions. Add one portion to the creamed mixture. Fold in a quarter of the egg white, followed by more almonds. Fold in the remaining eggs and almonds alternately until they have all been added. Divide the mixture between the two prepared tins and make a hollow in the center of each cake. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes. The sides should be cooked but the center still a little unset. Leave to cool for a few minutes in the tins; them remove them from the tin. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.

To make the icing, melt the chocolate with the rum in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water or in a low oven. Whisk in the butter, a tablespoon at a time, until melted. Remove from the heat and whisk occasionally until cool. If the icing seems too runny, put the bowl in the fridge and allow to firm up. Whisk to lighten and then use. When the cake is completely cold, fill and ice with the chocolate mixture. (If you want to cover the sides and pipe a border around the top, make 11/2 times the quantity of icing.) Decorate with flaked almonds and crystallized violets.

Orange Almond Cake with Orange Sauce

A moist and light orange flavored cake that can be served alone with a light yogurt for afternoon tea, or add the orange sauce for a decadent dessert!

Ingredients:

Cake:

3 eggs, separated

2/3 cup white sugar

1/4 cup rice flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup orange juice

1 tablespoon of orange zest

1 1/2 cups finely ground almonds

Orange Sauce:

2 tablespoons heavy cream

2 cups white sugar

1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

2 tablespoon grated orange zest

1/2 cup butter

4 egg whites

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 10 inch springform pan with cooking spray, and dust with rice flour.

Method:

In a large bowl, whip egg yolks with 2/3 cup of the sugar until thick and pale. This will take about 5 minutes with an electric beater, and it is ready when the beater is taken out of the batter and it leaves a trail. Stir in the rice flour the orange juice, the orange zest, and then fold in the almond meal and cinnamon.

In a separate glass or metal bowl, with absolutely no trace of fat, whip 3 egg whites until they hold a stiff peak: they will not incorporate any air at all if there is fat or egg yolk in the bowl. Fold into the almond mixture until well blended. Pour into the prepared pan, and spread evenly.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.

To make the orange sauce, cream together the butter and 2 cups of white sugar in a medium bowl. Stir in the cream, and place the dish over a pan of barely simmering water. Stir in orange juice and zest. Whip 4 egg whites in a separate bowl until soft peaks form. Fold into the orange sauce. Spoon over the cake and serve immediately.

A baby shower is a special time for family and friends to get together and celebrate the excitement of new life. One of the most important aspects of the baby shower is the cake. Creating your own baby shower cake shouldn't require a degree in the culinary arts. What it does require is just a little creativity, a few pans and some basic ingredients used for making any type of cake. Stork Cake

Delicious and Easy Baby Shower Cake Recipes

Ingredients:

3 boxes cake mix, any flavor

2 4 x 6 inch bread pans (rectangular)

1 6 inch round cake pan

1 9 inch round cake pan

1 large piece of cardboard, covered in colored plastic wrap

Embellishments; licorice, round candies

Directions:

Prepare cake mixes according to the directions on the box and pour into each cake pan. Allow cakes to cool completely, you may even wish to freeze them as frozen cake is much easier to work with and will be thawed by the time you are done icing and adding the finishing touches.

Slice one of the bread pan cakes in half to create the legs for the stork, and cut the other bread pan cake in half diagonally. Place the largest round cake in the center of the plastic wrapped cardboard, then use one of the diagonal pieces to create the neck, placing the widest end flush against the round cake.

Remove the extra corner that doesn't meet the round one, and place the 6 inch cake here against the cut edge to connect to the head. The widest part of the other diagonal piece should be placed flush against the head to form the stork's beak. Place the legs on the bottom of the body, and ice in white or pale yellow.

The beak and legs can be iced using black, brown, or orange, or bright yellow icing. Use candies for the eyes, licorice for the wing and for a line through the beak. For an extra touch, add a plastic baby from the craft store and wrap in a white cloth, placing the corners of the cloth at the edge of the stork's beak. The cloth can be secured to the cardboard beneath the cake with discreetly placed push pins.

Easy Butterfly Cake

Ingredients:

3 boxes of cake mix, any flavor

Icing

Food coloring

Heart-shaped cake pan

Muffin tin

Aluminum foil

Cardboard

Candy

Directions:

Prepare the cake mixes according to the directions, using the heart-shaped pan to create the butterfly's wings. If you only have one heart-shaped pan, you'll need to bake the wings separately, allowing time between each to cool. If possible, bake one of the wings the night before to cut down on cooling time.

Cut the cakes from the muffin tin in half and ice with black or dark brown icing for the body of the butterfly. The heart shapes should be placed on either side of the body and colorfully iced. Candy and licorice can be used for eyes and antennae.

More baby shower cake ideas:

- Baby Bunny Cake: Create a pink or blue bunny using round cake pans (or a bunny-shaped one of course), icing, candy drops for the nose and eyes, and square pieces of white gum for the teeth.

- Umbrella Cake: Again using round cake pans, colored icing and some thin licorice for the details, you can easily create a colorful umbrella cake in pink, white, blue, or yellow.

- Baby Bootie Cake: Cupcakes can be cut and shaped into baby booties, iced, and decorated with licorice for the laces.

Homemade Cake Recipes and Wedding Cake Recipes From Scratch

Making wedding cake recipes from scratch is not that difficult. Take it from me. I have been doing this for over 25 years now. The very first of my homemade wedding cakes was a carrot cake recipe and it was from scratch. Homemade wedding cakes are the best. The only time I EVER used a mix was in a high volume situation. It was exclusively the white wedding cake recipe that was slightly time consuming, and the chefs insisted upon my using their mix. If you have ever worked in a professional kitchen then you know how those head chefs can be at times, it is more about saving money and time, but for me it is so much more about quality. I did manage to sneak in all of my homemade fillings though.

Whether you are a professional pastry chef or an amateur baker making homemade wedding cakes for friends and family, these tips may help.

\"Cake Recipes\"

Tips

Homemade Cake Recipes and Wedding Cake Recipes From Scratch

  • Try to stick with a simple homemade recipe such as one that does not require a lot of fancy steps. A dump cake recipe is a good choice.
  • I know it does not sound so delicious but dump recipes basically have one requirement and that is that all ingredients get dumped into the bowl at once and mixed. And that is it. What could be easier than that? One of my best and most frequently requested cake is chocolate buttermilk dump recipe.
  • Have all of your ingredients measured out and at room temperature before you start the process of putting it all together.
  • Making a wedding cake if taken in steps is just a matter of multiplying your favorite homemade recipe and baking them off in larger pans.
  • Fill the cake pans 1/2 to 1/3 full. You can fill a pan a little more if using a lighter batter a little less when using a heavier batter. This is the part that you will need to judge as you gain experience.
  • Always grease, flour and put parchment or wax paper along the bottom of the pans.
  • Always let the cakes cool completely before covering and storing. You will need cardboard circles to put under each cake for support when lifting and moving the cakes.
  • You need to decide how many layers your cakes will be before baking, you can bake each layer separate or cut your cakes in half to make two layers. (It depends on how deep your pans are and how much you fill them as to how many layers you get out of each cake.) For wedding cakes I prefer using a two layer cake with one layer of filling because it keeps the cake a little more stable. But you will need to figure out your preferences.

Cake Recipes - Scrumptious Easy Layer Cake

The best thing about this cake, other than it being so easy, is that you can make it to please your taste buds! You really can choose any ingredients that you would like, but these are the ones that I have used in the past:

Pudding

Fruit

Cool Whip

Here are some other ideas of things that you may wish to choose from:

Cake: yellow, angel food, chocolate, strawberry, white

Pudding: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon, pistachio

Fruit: pineapple, cherry pie filling, bananas, peaches, pears (you can use as many fruits as you would like)

Chocolate chips, cinnamon candy, coconut, walnuts (or any other kind of nuts), are also great options.

Now to "build" your new layer cake, all you need to do is, layer the ingredients into a clear glass bowl. The presentation is so beautiful because you can see all the colors & ingredients through the glass! You may want to choose ingredients & colors to match whatever holiday that you are preparing the cake for.

Start with the cake as the first layer - (break into pieces or cut into squares), add fruit, then some pudding, then cool whip. Cake - fruit - pudding - cool whip, etc - until the bowl is almost filled.
You can then top with items like: coconut, nuts, or cherries if you wish.

If you'd like to have colored coconut, just place coconut in a ziplock bag with a few drops of food coloring, and mix until desired color is reached.

An example of a nice holiday display; a large platter with the glass bowl in the center. Add green coconut "grass" around the platter. Then, add a few nicely placed Easter eggs (candy, or the real ones =) around the green grass.
