Chocolate Cake in Childrens Week

With the arrival of childrens week came a multitude of bad adoptive parents looking for the [Bad Example] achievement which requires you to eat a variety of bad foods in front of your orphan.

One of these being the delicious chocolate cake. Like most people I went to the AH to see what the cooks of Azeroth were charging for the cake and found that the prices ranged from 60G at the start of the event to 25g 3 days later. I then priced up the individual ingredients on the AH and found that buying everything myself and cooking it would cost me 27g, so I bought an already made cake and watched my starving orphan cry as I ate it in front of him.

\"cake Recipe\"

A short while later curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to know just how much profit people were making from these 25g cakes. The answer was "a lot", (I'll show the figures later). The two main reasons these cakes were being sold at such a mark-up was that:
1 - Not everyone had the cake recipe which is a somewhat rare drop from the Outland cooking quest.
2 - People are too lazy to fly to each of the vendors to pick up the ingredients themselves.

The two ingredients that aren't sold by vendors were the small eggs and the Mageroyal. The small eggs however proved very easy to collect as there are mobs that have a 100% chance of dropping 1-2 at a time and are only level 6. The Mageroyal however proved to be a bit of a pain as I don't have herbalism and therefore would have to pay the overinflated prices on the AH.

So if making one cake yourself wasn't worth the time, maybe making them in bulk is? I wasn't too sure of the demand for the cakes this far into the event so decided to just make 10. Flying around and getting all the ingredients (including killing about 60 mobs for the eggs) took roughly 40 minutes. I've listed what I paid for all the items below:

8x10 simple flour = 20s (25b each)
4x10 ice cold milk = 50s (1s25b each)
4x10 mild spices = 4s (10b each)
8x10 small egg = free (15-20 minutes killing mobs)
1x10 flask of port = 15s (1s 50b each)
3x10 Mageroyal = 93g (bought on AH for an average price of 3.1g)

In total it cost me 93G 89S to make 10 cakes, at 25g they were the cheapest on the AH and within 24 hours 8 of them had sold. Once the other 2 sell I'll have made 237.5g (250g-5% AH cut) whilst using 93.89g of raw goods which gives me a profit of 143.61G for 45 minutes work. This equates to an hourly earning rate of 180G/hr

Not bad, but far from good. However there is a big lesson to be learnt here about getting in on things early. I did this experiment 3-4 days after the children's week event had started. Imagine if I had planned this a week before the start and aimed at being a big supplier. I would have been able to buy Mageroyal at its regular price (roughly 80s) instead of the 3g+ price it shot up to this week. Making 20 or 30 cakes would only take a slightly longer time (45-50 minutes). I would also have been able to start selling the cakes as the event started for the much higher price of 60G. If everything goes right a well prepared cook would be able to make 1000g-1800g for an hours work if he has planned well ahead, whilst the Johnny come lately's have to make do with their 180g/hr.

Death by Chocolate Cake - Your Ultimate Chocolate Cake

If you are a cake lover and find it difficult to resist especially the chocolate cakes, then you must be a fan of one of the most popular cakes in the world i.e. Death by Chocolate Cake. This cake has all the ingredients, which can make it extremely sumptuous and desirable. It has several layers of different ingredients that include whipped cream, caramel, chocolate, etc. and the combination makes it very delicious and something to die for. The final layer of dark chocolate spread over the sponge cake is amazingly delicious and mouth-watering. It makes the cake more exciting. The term death by chocolate is basically an advertising term used for different desserts, made of dark chocolate.

The basic recipe of death by chocolate cake is quite simple. Anyone can make this cake by correctly following the recipe. You just need to keep in mind the layers, which would be there in the cake, their order and specific ingredients. The lowest layer is chocolate brownie, followed by a layer of chocolate ganache, layer of cocoa meringue, mocha mouse and the final layer is of brownie again. There's a chocolate paste coating, which covers all the layers. One needs to take an extra care while coating. Use of spatula is suggested as it helps to cover all the corners of the cake. After the coating, you can use some sauces or fruits like strawberry or cherry to decorate the cake. A lace border around the cake by melting the chocolate and putting it in a cone-shaped wax paper can also be made. You can then draw any shape on the cake with the cream. If you want to write a message, that is also possible.

Cake

In the end, chilling the death by chocolate cake is very important. You need to put it immediately into your refrigerator. Otherwise, it could start melting down and the whole cake can turn into a disaster. Make sure that you don't keep it in for a very long time. Thirty to forty minutes will do, and a delicious cake would be ready to eat. You need to make sure that your family members do not often overeat the cake, because the frequent intake of chocolate can cause many problems in which gaining weight and oral problems are pretty common, especially in children and people who are in their forties to sixties. If you mostly bake cakes at your home, you can use low calorie chocolates as well, depending upon the ages of the guests and your family members.

It also increases glucose tolerance. Chocolate also contains some substances which have an anti oxidant effect. This is helpful in preventing cancer.

Chocolate is reported to cause headache, obesity, rectal itching, heart burn and emotional problems like irritability, confusion, anger and depression.

Chocolate is rich in carbohydrates, which increase the rate with which tryptophan enters the brain. This increases the level of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates moods, creating a good feeling.

The addictive property of chocolate is also well documented. This is evidenced by the fact that some people, when trying to give up alcohol, depend on chocolate to satisfy their cravings. This drug-like property is attributed to caffeine, anandamines, phenylethylamine and magnesium that are present in chocolate. The presence of caffeine and magnesium can contribute to a feeling of craving for chocolate. Ananadmides affect the brain in a similar way to marijuana, though research in this field is still debated.

There are more than 350 chemicals in chocolate. Some of these are believed to cause allergic reactions. Some scientists believe that phenylethylamine and theobromine could cause changes in moods. Phenylethylamine causes blood pressure and blood sugar to rise. It generates a feeling of alertness and contentment thus creating a feeling of well being. But, a short period of emotional high is followed by a period of emotional low. Theobromine is found naturally in cocoa and acts as an anti-depressant, but has been known to be toxic to animals.

Eating chocolate can also give rise to a feeling of anxiety. Phenylethylamine is said to cause dilation of blood vessels in brain causing headaches. Though it is still debatable whether phenylethylamine reaches the brain.

One ounce of chocolate contains 20 mg of caffeine. Researches on the effects of caffeine have reported that caffeine can cause problems in sleep, restlessness, irritability, heartburn and anxiety. Withdrawal from caffeine causes fatigue and headaches.

Tyramine is another amino acid present in chocolate. Though it is not certain whether any significant amount of tyramine reaches the brain, yet it is known that it causes blood vessels to expand and contract causing dull headaches.

Women appear to crave chocolate more than men, including diabetics. Some amongst these women reported that only chocolate and nothing else could satisfy their craving. The presence of magnesium in chocolate can account for the fact that during PMS (Post Menstrual Syndrome) craving for chocolate increases in women, as during this period a deficiency of magnesium may arise.

With all this contradictory information on the effects of chocolate on mood, one has to observe from one's experiences and decide whether chocolate is right for one. But, certainly, large amounts of chocolate will effect us physically or emotionally one way or another.

I love chocolate

I love chocolate and so does the rest of my family. It doesn't matter what form it's in either, I'll eat it in chocolate chip cookies or death by chocolate dessert or even just by the bar. It's so nice to go out to eat because you get to try a different chocolate dessert almost every time but it's a shame you can't do that every day, or can you?

Cake Recipes

You can't go out to eat every day, or at least not many of us can, and satisfying your desire for chocolate in different forms is probably difficult. Don't you wish that you could eat the same things at home that you would if you went out to a swanky restaurant?

How to Make a Rich Chocolate Cake

Old time bakers used to make a "pudding" for chocolate cakes. This pudding is different than the pudding in the mix chocolate cakes we are used to today. Old time chocolate pudding was a way for bakers to elicit the full chocolate flavor from the cocoa powder and unsweetened chocolate which gave them rich full flavored chocolate cake.

When cakes are made strictly with cocoa powder which contains mostly cocoa solids the chocolate cake flavor is somewhat subdued. The chocolate flavor can be stricken even more by mixing the cocoa powder with flour. But by incorporating unsweetened chocolate which contains cocoa butter as well as cocoa solids into the cocoa powder the chocolate cake is given an extra boost of chocolate flavor.

Cake Recipes

Water and sugar also play an important role in making a rich full flavored chocolate cake. Hot water heated in a double boiler is used to bloom the chocolate flavor in the cocoa powder and unsweetened chocolate. Then when sugar is incorporated into the chocolate pudding the subtle chocolate flavors will begin to shine.

Here is the basic recipe for making a pudding to add to your chocolate cake batter.

Unsweetened Chocolate

Cocoa Powder

Hot Water

Sugar

Combine coarsely chopped unsweetened chocolate, cocoa powder, and hot water in a double boiler. Heat until the chocolate is melted. Then add the sugar and stir until the pudding is glossy and thick.

Simply adjust the amounts above to your favorite chocolate cake recipe and watch your cake take on a whole new level of sweet chocolate flavor.
