  • For a sweeter, more dessert-like cake, substitute banana cake mix for the banana bread mix.

Easy Birthday Cakes Anyone Can Make

The first thing you need to know is that it isn't necessary to bake a cake from scratch. There is nothing wrong with using a boxed mix if you aren't the world's greatest baker and even icing can be bought in a can, if you are in a hurry. So, a couple of days before the party, buy two or three boxed mixes and get ready to go.

You should bake the cakes the day before the party so they have time to cool, and then decorate in the morning of your child's birthday. Leave yourself lots of time to decorate so you can fix mistakes without feeling too much pressure.

\"Cake Recipes\"

Alright, that's it for the baking tips, let's get on to the actual cakes.

Easy Birthday Cakes Anyone Can Make

Caterpillar Cake

This is best for the younger set and it is super easy to make. Instead of using cake pans, you will bake the cake batter in muffin tins. You need one muffin for each guest, so if you have invited six children and their mothers, you will need 14 cupcakes. Although you can use muffin papers, you will need to remove them before you finish the cake.

On a big tray, arrange the cupcakes in an undulating line to form the body of the caterpillar. You can ice them any way you wish, each cupcake a different color, or all the same with letters spelling out the birthday child's name, or even with spots made of candies! The caterpillar's head will need eyes which can be made with chocolate circles and a dab of white icing.

For legs, you will need to cut strips of red or black licorice into 3" lengths and add 2 per cupcake, lying on the tray. You can add icing shoes if you like, just blobs at the end of each leg, but this isn't necessary. Two licorice antennae are a good touch as well! And there you have a very easy birthday cake that doesn't even need to be cut!

Lego Cake

To make this fun cake you will need to bake three rectangular layers. Put one on top of the other so you have a double layer, then use the third to make the "teeth" of your Lego cake. You will need to use a round cookie cutter, about 2.5-3" in diameter. Cut out 6 or 8 rounds, depending on the size of the cake.

Use icing to add the "teeth" to the top of your Lego block. This might be easier if you first ice the cake and the teeth separately, then attach and smooth the icing around the base of the teeth. Ice the cake in your child's favorite color.

Paw Print Cake

You need four cupcakes and a round cake layer for this birthday sweet. Simply ice them in chocolate icing (or in blue icing for Blue's Clue's prints) and set the round cake on a plate. Arrange the four cupcakes as toes at the top and you are ready to go!

As you can see, it is pretty easy to come up with a simple to make, great looking birthday cake that your child will be proud to eat! So don't let fear stop you, go ahead and get baking!

Melting Method Cakes

Cake making by the melting method really is a piece of cake because it requires the minimum of effort. This method is specially designed to cope with the extra sweeteners needed to make soft and sticky traditional cakes such as gingerbread.

Melting-method cakes have a characteristic tacky, sticky texture throughout the cake, and it is this that has made cake like gingerbread so very popular and has given them such a high place in traditional baking. This stickiness is achieved by increasing the proportion of sweetening agents to ether ingredients in the cake.

\"Cake Recipes\"

To handle the extra volume of sweetener, a special method is used. With this method the fat is melted with the sweetener before the flour is added. Before cooking the cake mixture has a good texture and a consistency similar to a thick batter, rather than the soft topping consistency of cake mixtures made by the all-in-one or creaming methods.

Melting Method Cakes

Like all cakes, the amount and the choice of ingredients depend on the method you are using, the flavor and the texture you wish to achieve and/or the recipe you have chosen. Average proportions for cakes made by the melting method are one-third fat to the total amount of flour; one-third sugar to the total amount of flour; and one to two-thirds of sweetener to the total amount of flour. However, these proportions can vary considerably with individual recipes.

One extremely important factor when making cakes by this method is the exact weighing of the ingredients for the individual recipes. As long as there is a correct balance of ingredients to start with, perfect results will follow.

There are no hard and fast rules about the type of flour to use. As a basic guide, plain flour is best used, because then you can control the amount of raising agent which is important to the mixture. Self-raising flour may be used for certain recipes, but as you have no control over the raising agent you can never be sure whether it is too much or too little for the purpose of making cakes by this method. Certain brown flours can be used depending on your taste. Never use a strong plain flour (the type recommended for bread making), because this will produce a tough and heavy-textured cake. You should never substitute one flour for another in a given recipe, because this could upset the overall balance.

Bicarbonate of soda is the raising agent most often used in this method of cake making as it combines successfully with plain flour. When this chemical raising agent is heated, it gives off a carbon dioxide which produces the rise. Baking powder, another chemical raising agent, is used where self-raising flour is included. The quantities are usually small because of the amounts already in a self-raising flour. Baking powder is added, nevertheless to boost the rising. If you are using a brown flour, you must use baking powder in larger quantities than with self-raising flour. Brown flour is so much heavier than white flour and needs the extra rise that a larger quantity of baking powder will give.

Help! I Don't Have Any... Cooking Options To Help When You Can't Get to the Store

For many cooks, there are times when we do not have the proper ingredients on hand to make our desired dish. If you find yourself in this situation, don't despair, many common ingredients can be used to replace recipes standards, saving the cook a drive to the store. Here are some hints.

Milk

\"Cake Recipes\"

A lot of recipes require milk. If you realize yourself out of milk or short on the amount necessary to finish a specific recipe, make sure you keep a supply of evaporated milk on hand. Evaporated milk or reconstituted milk can be kept for a long time and once mixed with water and many times a bit of butter, can easily taste just as good as regular milk.

Help! I Don't Have Any... Cooking Options To Help When You Can't Get to the Store

Baking Powder

If you do not have baking powder readily available, use baking soda and a dash of buttermilk. For a tablespoon of double acting baking powder, substitute 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and a 1/2 cup of buttermilk.

Self Rising Flour

Self rising flour is easy to make from scratch, just combine one cup of all purpose flour with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

Butter Milk

Out of butter milk? You can simply create your own. You can substitute 1 cup of butter milk with 1 cup whole milk and a tablespoon of vinegar. You can also substitute 1 cup of butter milk with 2/3 cup of plain yogurt and 1/3 cup whole milk.

Garlic

Ran out of garlic? Substitute garlic powder instead. About 1 clove of garlic equals 1/8 of a teaspoon of garlic powder.

Honey

You can easily replace honey with sugar and water. 1 cup of honey equals about 1 and 1/4 cup of sugar and a 1/4 cup of water.

Substituting Sugar

If you are short on sugar on hand or would like to replace it due to health issues, here are some hints to substitute sugar:

Sugar can be exchanged with with maple syrup, corn syrup, brown sugar, honey, stevia, and molasses. Although, some recipes will call for sugar or a granular sweetener and not syrup due to baking and texture requirements.

If you striving to decrease the amount of sugar you eat due to health issues, consider the many sweeteners, sometimes called sugar replacements at the supermarket. They include, Sweet and Low, Splenda, Equal, and plant based Stevia.

The World's Best Chocolate Cake Recipe, Bake This and They Will Love You Forever

Ingredients

(This is to make a large birthday cake, you can scale down for an ordinary cake)

\"Cake Recipes\"

200 grams of stork or other baking margarine

The World's Best Chocolate Cake Recipe, Bake This and They Will Love You Forever

200 grams of caster sugar

4 medium / large eggs

3 tbs of cocoa powder

Approx 75 grams of cornflour

100 grams of self raising flour

1 tbs baking powder

Vanilla essence

For the Icing

75 grams of margarine

Icing sugar to make a stiff mix

Water

Vanilla essence

Step 1

Using a mixer or food processor, cream together the sugar and margarine until it is light and fluffy. Add 1 tsp of vanilla essence and mix thoroughly.

Step 2

Add the 4 eggs, 1 at a time, mixing thoroughly until each egg is fully blended in. Leave mixer on for around 5 minutes.

Step 3

Into a weighing scale, put 3 heaped tablespoons of cocoa powder. Add cornflour to make up to 100 grams, then add 100grams of self raising flour. Finally add 1 tablespoon of baking powder.

Step 4

Sieve the flour mix into your mix. Fold in, then mix with mixer until fully incorporated.

Step 5

Split mix between 2 lightly greased non stick 8 inch baking tins. Bake in over at 175 degrees centigrade for around 20 minutes. Test by lightly shaking the tin to see if it wobbles like a jelly. (if it does give it 5 more minutes.) If its firm, slide in a skewer to check the mix is cooked. It should not have any cake mix on, but will have steam from the mix. As long as there is no mix on the skewer, remove from oven to cool.

Step 6

While the cake is cooling, mix the margarine for the icing with 1 tsp of vanilla essence and enough icing sugar to make a stiff mix. Add 1 tsp of water at a time and mix in, the mix will let down and become creamy and smooth. Set aside until the cake is cold. DO NOT attempt to ice the cake when warm, the icing will go runny.

Tip - when icing, do not spread the icing, as this cake is so light it will break under the pressure. Just add spoonfuls of icing around the bottom layer, then put the top on and rotate slightly to spread the filling.

Step 7

Decorate the top of the cake with sieved icing sugar or cocoa powder. Get a cup of coffee, then eat a huge slice!

To make a celebration cake you can ice the outside of the cake and decorate it with chocolate curls, or ice and fill with whipped cream, or make a chocolate fudge icing mix, or use cream and cherries for a black forest gateaux. What ever floats your boat really.

Variations

You can also make this recipe into a victoria sponge, just take out the cocoa and substitute with more cornflour. Then ice with vanilla icing and jam. Or, use lemon essence and lemon icing for a tangy variation.

Making Raisin Cake

Raisin cake is best served at tea time. The ingredients used in this cake recipe are similar to those of any other plain cake like fruit cake, marble cake etc. The key points in making a soft raisin cake is to use the right quantity of ingredients and follow the exact steps as shown in this recipe. The preparation time is not much as it usually takes a maximum of 60 minutes from beating to baking. This raisin cake can be served to a maximum of 6 people. When making for more people just increase the quantity of ingredients maintaining the exact ratio.

Ingredients Required:
4 eggs
8 oz butter (softened)
8 oz sugar
8 oz plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 drops of vanilla essence
Pinch of salt
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup milk

\"Cake Recipes\"

Cooking Instructions:
The first step in making a plain cake batter is to beat butter so that it becomes smooth. It is best to use softened butter as it requires less time and effort to make it smooth. While beating, gradually increase the speed of beater in this process. Keep beating butter with sugar until it gets a creamy texture. Now gradually add egg yolks and beat well to mix evenly. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites on high speed for 2-3 minutes to form a foamy texture . Always beat egg whites just before adding in the batter otherwise it separates itself into liquid and foam and your cake might become hard. Mix egg whites into the mixture and make fine smooth batter. Add few drops of vanilla essence as it will remove any unpleasant smell of egg. Mix separately, all the dry ingredients i.e flour, baking powder, salt and sift them together so that all the air escapes from the mixture and they mix evenly. Using spatula, add and mix dry mixture to the batter. You can also use a beater for this purpose but you will have to keep its speed very low because we just want the ingredients to be mixed together. Now add half cup of milk, raisins and mix using any flat spatula. In a suitable size baking pan, pour the batter and bake in preheated oven for 30-40 minutes at 180 degree centigrade. It is not necessary that the baking time remains same as mentioned above. It may be more or less because depending upon the working of your oven. The best way to check the cake is when you start sensing its smell. At this point, insert a knife from top till deep down the bottom of your cake. If it comes out clear and dry then your raisin came is ready.

Baking Without Gluten - Cake Recipes for Celiac Sufferers

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, often genetically inherited, in which the sufferers are intolerant of gluten. Celiac disease is caused by an abnormal reaction to gliadin, which is a gluten protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The only cure is abstinence from gluten, which means that a whole new method of eating has to be learned.

It can be said that if celiac sufferers avoid flour, they will be fine. Although this is simplistic, it is not far wrong. But celiac sufferers have birthdays and celebrations the same as anyone else. And that means they may want a cake now and then, even while avoiding flour.

\"Cake Recipes\"

It is possible to bake without flour and there is a whole range of products on the market for gluten-free alternatives. However, for various reasons, the products may not be viable alternatives: they may not be available locally; or they may be priced beyond your budget. For many people, adapting regular recipes has to be the answer. For those who wish to adapt mainstream recipes, I have provided a few recipes below.

Baking Without Gluten - Cake Recipes for Celiac Sufferers

Rice Pudding Cake

Despite its name, it is a firm and heavy moist cake, and it is full of flavor. It is firm enough to cut into large slices. I did not develop this recipe it was given to me over twenty years ago by a friend in Western Australia. Her daughter was gluten intolerant. It is still one of the nicest gluten-free cakes I have ever tasted.

Ingredients:

3 cups cooked rice

4 eggs, beaten

1/2 cup demerara sugar

2 medium bananas, mashed

2 apples, finely chopped or grated

1 pear grated

500g (1 pound) cottage cheese

2 cups mixed dried fruit

1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped

1/2 cup almonds or brazil nuts, roughly chopped grated rind of one large orange

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon all spice

Heat oven until 2200 C, 4000 F

Method:

Combine everything and mix well, and place in a greased bundt tin or a fluted ring tin to give the hole in the center. Bake for about half an hour until firm and cooked through. When a skewer comes out clean, the cake is cooked. Cool in the tin, refrigerate for a few hours, and then serve with cream.

Flourless Black Forest Gateaux

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream, or simply dusted with icing sugar. To keep this recipe totally flour free dust the tin with cacao.

Ingredients:

Cake:

4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup white sugar

1/2 cup cocoa powder

3 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Filling:

a jar of Morello or Sweet cherries in natural juice.

1 Tub of thick whipping cream.

Preheat oven to 3000degrees F or 1500 degrees C.

Method:

Grease an oblong Swiss roll tin, or a jelly pan and dust with cocoa powder. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over boiling water, but do not let the bowl touch the water. When the chocolate is melted, add the butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, cocoa powder, eggs, and vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.

Place powdered sugar or cocoa powder on a piece of kitchen paper and place the cake on it. Drain the jar of morello cherries and whip the cream until it holds its shape; then add the cherries. Place on top of the cake and roll up like a roll. Top with grated chocolate and serve with cream.

Healthy Fruit Cake

This recipe makes an excellent cutting cake. To make a 11/2 lb cake in an 8" tin:

Ingredients:

1 large banana, as green as possible

1 large carrot, peeled and grated

2 eggs 100 ml olive oil

4 oz (100g)granulated sugar

1 table spoon of black treacle/ molasses

8 oz (200g)gluten free flour mix

1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda

1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar

1 level teaspoon of mixed spice

1 level teaspoon of ground ginger

1 level teaspoon of cinnamon

8 oz (200g) mixed dried fruit

several glace cherries green and red

Preheated oven, 350°F or 180°C

Method:

Beat the banana and carrot to a smooth puree with the olive oil, sugar and egg in a food processor. Add the flour and beat in. Add the treacle, spices, and raising agents and beat in. Add the fruit and beat in. Pour the mixture immediately into a deep 8" cake or 2 lb loaf tin lined with a layer of non-stick baking paper. Bake for 11/4 to 11/2 hours.

Chocolate Almond Gateau

Ingredients:

Cake:

110g/4oz best-quality dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa solids)

2 tablespoons white rum 110g/4oz whole almonds

110g/4oz butter, preferably unsalted

110g/4oz caster sugar, plus 1 tbsp extra, to mix with the egg whites

3 eggs, preferably free-range, separated

For the chocolate icing:

110g (4oz) best-quality dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa solids)

2 Tablespoons white rum

110g/4oz unsalted butter

To decorate:

crystallized violets

flaked almonds

You will also need 2 x 18cm/7in sandwich tins.

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Line the base of each of the tins with greaseproof paper. Brush the bottom and sides with melted butter and dust with a little rice flour. Melt the chocolate with the rum in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water or in a low oven. Bring a small saucepan of water to the boil and add the almonds. Bring back to the boil for 2-3 minutes and then test an almond to see if the skin is loose. Drain the almonds, peel and discard the skins. Grind the whole almonds in a food processor until they are slightly gritty.

Cream the butter and add the sugar. Beat until pale, light and soft. Beat in the egg yolks, one by one. Whisk the egg whites until stiff. Add the extra tablespoon of sugar and continue to whisk until stiff peaks form, then add the melted chocolate to the butter and sugar mixture. Divide the prepared almonds into four portions. Add one portion to the creamed mixture. Fold in a quarter of the egg white, followed by more almonds. Fold in the remaining eggs and almonds alternately until they have all been added. Divide the mixture between the two prepared tins and make a hollow in the center of each cake. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes. The sides should be cooked but the center still a little unset. Leave to cool for a few minutes in the tins; them remove them from the tin. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.

To make the icing, melt the chocolate with the rum in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water or in a low oven. Whisk in the butter, a tablespoon at a time, until melted. Remove from the heat and whisk occasionally until cool. If the icing seems too runny, put the bowl in the fridge and allow to firm up. Whisk to lighten and then use. When the cake is completely cold, fill and ice with the chocolate mixture. (If you want to cover the sides and pipe a border around the top, make 11/2 times the quantity of icing.) Decorate with flaked almonds and crystallized violets.

Orange Almond Cake with Orange Sauce

A moist and light orange flavored cake that can be served alone with a light yogurt for afternoon tea, or add the orange sauce for a decadent dessert!

Ingredients:

Cake:

3 eggs, separated

2/3 cup white sugar

1/4 cup rice flour

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup orange juice

1 tablespoon of orange zest

1 1/2 cups finely ground almonds

Orange Sauce:

2 tablespoons heavy cream

2 cups white sugar

1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

2 tablespoon grated orange zest

1/2 cup butter

4 egg whites

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 10 inch springform pan with cooking spray, and dust with rice flour.

Method:

In a large bowl, whip egg yolks with 2/3 cup of the sugar until thick and pale. This will take about 5 minutes with an electric beater, and it is ready when the beater is taken out of the batter and it leaves a trail. Stir in the rice flour the orange juice, the orange zest, and then fold in the almond meal and cinnamon.

In a separate glass or metal bowl, with absolutely no trace of fat, whip 3 egg whites until they hold a stiff peak: they will not incorporate any air at all if there is fat or egg yolk in the bowl. Fold into the almond mixture until well blended. Pour into the prepared pan, and spread evenly.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.

To make the orange sauce, cream together the butter and 2 cups of white sugar in a medium bowl. Stir in the cream, and place the dish over a pan of barely simmering water. Stir in orange juice and zest. Whip 4 egg whites in a separate bowl until soft peaks form. Fold into the orange sauce. Spoon over the cake and serve immediately.

Stork Cake

Delicious and Easy Baby Shower Cake Recipes

Ingredients:

3 boxes cake mix, any flavor

2 4 x 6 inch bread pans (rectangular)

1 6 inch round cake pan

1 9 inch round cake pan

1 large piece of cardboard, covered in colored plastic wrap

Embellishments; licorice, round candies

Directions:

Prepare cake mixes according to the directions on the box and pour into each cake pan. Allow cakes to cool completely, you may even wish to freeze them as frozen cake is much easier to work with and will be thawed by the time you are done icing and adding the finishing touches.

Slice one of the bread pan cakes in half to create the legs for the stork, and cut the other bread pan cake in half diagonally. Place the largest round cake in the center of the plastic wrapped cardboard, then use one of the diagonal pieces to create the neck, placing the widest end flush against the round cake.

Remove the extra corner that doesn't meet the round one, and place the 6 inch cake here against the cut edge to connect to the head. The widest part of the other diagonal piece should be placed flush against the head to form the stork's beak. Place the legs on the bottom of the body, and ice in white or pale yellow.

The beak and legs can be iced using black, brown, or orange, or bright yellow icing. Use candies for the eyes, licorice for the wing and for a line through the beak. For an extra touch, add a plastic baby from the craft store and wrap in a white cloth, placing the corners of the cloth at the edge of the stork's beak. The cloth can be secured to the cardboard beneath the cake with discreetly placed push pins.

Easy Butterfly Cake

Ingredients:

3 boxes of cake mix, any flavor

Icing

Food coloring

Heart-shaped cake pan

Muffin tin

Aluminum foil

Cardboard

Candy

Directions:

Prepare the cake mixes according to the directions, using the heart-shaped pan to create the butterfly's wings. If you only have one heart-shaped pan, you'll need to bake the wings separately, allowing time between each to cool. If possible, bake one of the wings the night before to cut down on cooling time.

Cut the cakes from the muffin tin in half and ice with black or dark brown icing for the body of the butterfly. The heart shapes should be placed on either side of the body and colorfully iced. Candy and licorice can be used for eyes and antennae.

More baby shower cake ideas:

- Baby Bunny Cake: Create a pink or blue bunny using round cake pans (or a bunny-shaped one of course), icing, candy drops for the nose and eyes, and square pieces of white gum for the teeth.

- Umbrella Cake: Again using round cake pans, colored icing and some thin licorice for the details, you can easily create a colorful umbrella cake in pink, white, blue, or yellow.

- Baby Bootie Cake: Cupcakes can be cut and shaped into baby booties, iced, and decorated with licorice for the laces.

3. Don't grease and flour your baking pans unless the recipe calls for it.

4. Always let them cool before frosting.

Homemade Cake Recipes and Wedding Cake Recipes From Scratch

Making wedding cake recipes from scratch is not that difficult. Take it from me. I have been doing this for over 25 years now. The very first of my homemade wedding cakes was a carrot cake recipe and it was from scratch. Homemade wedding cakes are the best. The only time I EVER used a mix was in a high volume situation. It was exclusively the white wedding cake recipe that was slightly time consuming, and the chefs insisted upon my using their mix. If you have ever worked in a professional kitchen then you know how those head chefs can be at times, it is more about saving money and time, but for me it is so much more about quality. I did manage to sneak in all of my homemade fillings though.

Whether you are a professional pastry chef or an amateur baker making homemade wedding cakes for friends and family, these tips may help.

Tips

Homemade Cake Recipes and Wedding Cake Recipes From Scratch

  • Try to stick with a simple homemade recipe such as one that does not require a lot of fancy steps. A dump cake recipe is a good choice.
  • I know it does not sound so delicious but dump recipes basically have one requirement and that is that all ingredients get dumped into the bowl at once and mixed. And that is it. What could be easier than that? One of my best and most frequently requested cake is chocolate buttermilk dump recipe.
  • Have all of your ingredients measured out and at room temperature before you start the process of putting it all together.
  • Making a wedding cake if taken in steps is just a matter of multiplying your favorite homemade recipe and baking them off in larger pans.
  • Fill the cake pans 1/2 to 1/3 full. You can fill a pan a little more if using a lighter batter a little less when using a heavier batter. This is the part that you will need to judge as you gain experience.
  • Always grease, flour and put parchment or wax paper along the bottom of the pans.
  • Always let the cakes cool completely before covering and storing. You will need cardboard circles to put under each cake for support when lifting and moving the cakes.
  • You need to decide how many layers your cakes will be before baking, you can bake each layer separate or cut your cakes in half to make two layers. (It depends on how deep your pans are and how much you fill them as to how many layers you get out of each cake.) For wedding cakes I prefer using a two layer cake with one layer of filling because it keeps the cake a little more stable. But you will need to figure out your preferences.

Cake Recipes - Scrumptious Easy Layer Cake

The best thing about this cake, other than it being so easy, is that you can make it to please your taste buds! You really can choose any ingredients that you would like, but these are the ones that I have used in the past:

Cake

\"Cake Recipes\"

Pudding

Cake Recipes - Scrumptious Easy Layer Cake

Fruit

Cool Whip

Here are some other ideas of things that you may wish to choose from:

Cake: yellow, angel food, chocolate, strawberry, white

Pudding: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon, pistachio

Fruit: pineapple, cherry pie filling, bananas, peaches, pears (you can use as many fruits as you would like)

Chocolate chips, cinnamon candy, coconut, walnuts (or any other kind of nuts), are also great options.

Now to "build" your new layer cake, all you need to do is, layer the ingredients into a clear glass bowl. The presentation is so beautiful because you can see all the colors & ingredients through the glass! You may want to choose ingredients & colors to match whatever holiday that you are preparing the cake for.

Start with the cake as the first layer - (break into pieces or cut into squares), add fruit, then some pudding, then cool whip. Cake - fruit - pudding - cool whip, etc - until the bowl is almost filled.
You can then top with items like: coconut, nuts, or cherries if you wish.

If you'd like to have colored coconut, just place coconut in a ziplock bag with a few drops of food coloring, and mix until desired color is reached.

An example of a nice holiday display; a large platter with the glass bowl in the center. Add green coconut "grass" around the platter. Then, add a few nicely placed Easter eggs (candy, or the real ones =) around the green grass.

Cake Recipes: Lose Weight While Eating Your Favorite Cakes!

Use alternative ingredients for you recipe
The solution to losing weight is basically controlling your calorie intake. This can most easily be done when consuming ready made foods, such as cakes, by reading the amount of calories on the information sticker on the actual product. Establish that the calories are not exceeding your required daily intake. But if you're willing to make a cake from scratch, it really is easy to bake a cake with very little calories. You do this by substituting the high-fat/calorie ingredients for low-fat/calorie ingredients. So for example, exchange white flour for cake flour. interchange normal oil with a healthier olive oil. Instead of using a whole egg, use two egg whites alternately. Do you understand where this is going?

Using simple methods such as the ones above not only reduce the calorie content of your cakes, but don't diminish the form. The cakes will remain as soft and spongy once baked, but are much healthier. additional things you could replace are to put the cake into non-stick pans, instead of greasing up the cake pan using butter. Try using brown sugar as a substitute of white sugar.

\"Cake Recipes\"

Some advice on how to make the best, healthy chocolate cakes ever!
So now you know how to substitute higher calorie ingredients with lower ones, here are some tips on making a great chocolate cake. Firstly, we would recommend using an easy chocolate cake recipe, one that you're comfortable with and that you could tackle. Make sure you have all the tools and kit you'll need to hand prior to starting.

Cake Recipes: Lose Weight While Eating Your Favorite Cakes!

When preparing the cake mix, make sure that you use a low fat butter, or a margarine for unsurpassed healthy mixes. And again use egg whites rather than whole eggs to keep the calories right down. When putting chocolate into the mixture, we'd suggest using a dark chocolate. The reason being that darker chocolate (the slightly embittered tasting ones) have a higher cocoa content, meaning they contain less fat. If the mixture is not sharp enough, you could try using some cocoa powder to sweeten it up.

When preparing the pan for the cake mixture, make sure you use a non-stick pan. Also try sprinkling a little flour on the pan, this will further prevent the cake from sticking to the pan once it comes out of the oven. This is even more important when using a shaped pan. Ensure that you get into all the little gaps and hollows of the pan with the flour, to you could find some parts of your cake come away with the pan itself. If you don't want to use flour, another healthy options to use a vegetable non-stick spray. They're attainable from most supermarkets.

If you decide to use a layered cake you could try putting reduced fat jello/jelly between the layers. An even better option would be to put sliced fruit, such as strawberries in between the layers.

Not only will your friend and family find such a cake mouthwatering, you are safe in the knowledge that it is a healthier option.

Healthy Birthday cakes
Birthday cakes can be healthy too. By now, hopefully you've understood the additional ingredient method. This can also be used for Birthday Cakes or more special occasions. The cakes become healthy when making the mixture. So when mixing ingredients for a birthday cake, use some imagination and create a sweetened cake mixture, using natural ingredients. Try this one for example. When preparing the mixture, instead of putting a lot of sugar in, replace some of the sugar with a sweet fruit? Examples could be using a banana for instance. Using two bananas would replace quite a bit of sugar, and is all naturally moderate in calories. Try putting some raisins into the mixture. They're naturally tangy and young children enjoy finding them in their cakes. Another option is to use applesauce in the mixture alternatively of oil. Obviously when putting these ingredients into cakes, do the odd 'dip test' to make sure the tang and taste etc are as required.

A Top-Rated Recipe
Here's a great recipe for a healthy cake, which should only take you nearly 30 to 40 minutes to bake.

All you need is an angel cake ready mix and a can of crushed pineapple (and also a bowl, mixer, pan and oven etc)

Instead of using water to mix the angel cake mixer with, empty the crushed pineapple can into the dish and using your mixer, mix until a silky consistency comes about
Pour into a cake pan, preferably a 13 x 9 pan.
Bake in the central tray of your kitchen stove for almost 30-40 minutes, or until the sides of the cake come away from the pan edge
Cut cake into smaller portions, this can serve not far from 12 people, with small portions
Enjoy! This cake only has in effect 0.2 grams of fat, around 145 calories and 34.6g of carbs per serving!

You can adorn the cake if you wish, using icing or frosting, but be mindful of what category you use, as the whole purpose of this cake is to eat healthier.

Losing weight is not only done by eating healthier foods but healthy foods are a staple of a weight loss regime that should include exercise too. In fact exercising is a great way of staying in shape and makes you feel better. So the answer to losing weight seems to be watching what you eat and an active lifestyle. But the point of this feature is to show you that you can still eat your preferred cakes; strawberry cheesecakes, chocolate, frosted or coconut, by ensuring that they're generated with high quality ingredients which are reduced in calories.
