21st Birthday Cake Ideas

Top the cake with 21 candles: A traditional cake can be topped with 21 candles or two candles in the shape of a 2 and a 1. This leaves plenty of room and emphasizes the wonderful flavor the birthday celebrant looks forward to all year. Fill between layers with a favorite flavor like strawberry. Blowing out 21 lit candles is a whole new experience and can be fun to watch. After that, even a 21 year old, realizes they're getting old.

Make the cake in the shape of the numbers for 2 and 1: Everyone loves cakes made in special shapes. Large numerals made of cake really say it. Years later, it will be easy to tell what birthday it was from the photos. Since a great deal of the cake will be cut away to make the numbers, you should use a full sheet pan or two half sheet pans. Make sure you have plenty of frosting ready because the cut sides of the numerals will gobble it up like crazy.

Cake

Make the cake in the shape of wine bottles or a beer mug: 21 is the legal age for drinking. I don't promote drinking, but a cake in the shape of a wine bottle or beer mug can be fun for the right person. The shape may have to be oversized to have enough to serve party guests. The label on the wine bottle provides an opportunity for some humor. You can use the year of birth as the vintage and a play on the birthday celebrant's name as the name for the wine. Some wine glasses with ribbons can be set nearby to share a toast. Serve sparkling cider to those under 21 at the party.

21st Birthday Cake Ideas

Make the cake in the shape of a car: Driving is important to a 21-year old. A cake in the shape of his or her favorite car is a great way to celebrate. Use at least two layers, one for the body of the car and a smaller one for the passenger compartment. Tires are easy if you use dark chocolate cookies frosted and pressed on the side of the car (cake) body. Silver or black are very difficult frosting colors for the car body. Use wild colors like hot pink or lime green for the car body frosting and have fun. The glass in the windows can be done with light blue frosting and a few white highlights to indicate reflections. Very little detail is needed to make it look like a car once you have the basic shape and wheels. Soon your 21 year old will be driving away with a tasty piece of cake. Have fun!

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake Ideas

A sixteenth birthday is always special. A 16-year-old is a class on his own - he or she is no longer considered a child, but is not an adult quite yet. This makes the planning for the birthday party hard, since you wouldn't want it to look like a children's party, but you don't want it to be too "adult" as well. Here are some sweet 16 birthday cake ideas that you can use.

Since the celebrant is young, color themes should also be young. Cake colors should be light, such as cream, pink, yellow and peach. Light blue shades as well as lilac and lavender may also be used. The colors and cake design must match the theme of the party. A layered fondant cake with pink or peach flower trimmings is ideal for parties with a costume ball theme. Celebrant can look like a princess with a balloon pink gown and tiara, and guests would wear costumes.

Cake

Another cake idea for the princess theme is to make small cupcakes and put them in a multi-layered cake stand. Trim them with little flowers made of icing. When arranged well, the cakes would look like little pots of flowers in a flower garden. You can use one color, or mixed pastel shades of pink, yellow and light orange. This cake would also be perfect if the party has a ballerina theme. A fairy theme would also be nice, with guests carrying wands and wearing shimmering pink wings.

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake Ideas

With small round cupcakes, put colored frosting on top and arrange them so the cake would look like bubbles or balloons. This would look cute for a children's party theme, where guests can dress up like little kids. Instead of round cupcakes, you can also make square or rectangular ones, and decorate each with colored frosting to make them look like tiny gift boxes. With a little creativity, have fun with a frosting bag and create patterns to simulate gift wrapping paper and ribbons. Or you can decorate them to look like little colored trucks or cars. This cake idea can be used for any party theme.

For large parties, 16 photo cakes can be arranged to make a photo album cake. Photos of the celebrant from age 1 to 16 can be placed on each cake. Wouldn't it be fun for guests to see how the celebrant has grown and changed through the years?

So the next time someone turns sweet 16, finding birthday cake ideas should not be that difficult. You can browse through the internet and find pictures so you can show them to your baker. At this day and age, virtually any cake design is possible. So use your imagination, and be amazed at where it will take you.

40th Birthday Cake Ideas

A 40th birthday is a great time to celebrate! If you're going to be throwing a birthday party for someone who is reaching that milestone, here are some 40th birthday cake ideas for fabulous cake possibilities.

First, consider the old standby. A simple cake should work for this one, but have the number 40 written as big as possible. Then, surround the edges of the cake with 40 candles. Don't forget to light them. And don't forget to have a fire extinguisher standing by.

Cake

Second, why not try a photo reproduction cake? These are becoming more and more popular and they can be very beautifully done. You'll need a favorite photograph of the birthday gal or guy. Maybe one with the spouse, or even with the kids. Phone around to local bakeries to find one that has the capability of turning the photo into a cake topper. They'll make an actual edible photo to put on top of the cake. Most cakes I've seen like this are real conversation pieces. Everyone loves them. And then you get to eat it, and it's always fun to see who gets to eat Uncle Larry's head.

40th Birthday Cake Ideas

Third, try the hobby angle. Does your brother like to fish? Then, have a cake decorated with a fishing theme. Does your aunt like to golf? Golf-themed cakes can be super cute. There was a very beautiful cake at my local bakery that was decorated with shoes and handbags for a woman who loved shopping. Whatever the hobby, the bakery can do it!

Next, you can't forget the "Root for the Hometeam" cake. Does your family love the Razorbacks? A cake in the shape of a hog, covered in bright red icing will always make people happy. And then you get to make fun of everyone because after they eat the icing, their lips and mouth will be bright red for the rest of the day. Any team colors or logos will make a super 40th birthday cake really special.

Lastly, don't scoff at the tried and true tombstone/over-the-hill cake. Yes, it's been done and overdone. But it also makes people laugh every time. And, truly, the 40th birthday is a great time to poke a little fun.

Whatever cake you choose, make sure to take a picture. Because the recipient is going to remember this birthday for a long time!

Easy Birthday Cakes Anyone Can Make

The first thing you need to know is that it isn't necessary to bake a cake from scratch. There is nothing wrong with using a boxed mix if you aren't the world's greatest baker and even icing can be bought in a can, if you are in a hurry. So, a couple of days before the party, buy two or three boxed mixes and get ready to go.

You should bake the cakes the day before the party so they have time to cool, and then decorate in the morning of your child's birthday. Leave yourself lots of time to decorate so you can fix mistakes without feeling too much pressure.

\"Cake Recipes\"

Alright, that's it for the baking tips, let's get on to the actual cakes.

Easy Birthday Cakes Anyone Can Make

Caterpillar Cake

This is best for the younger set and it is super easy to make. Instead of using cake pans, you will bake the cake batter in muffin tins. You need one muffin for each guest, so if you have invited six children and their mothers, you will need 14 cupcakes. Although you can use muffin papers, you will need to remove them before you finish the cake.

On a big tray, arrange the cupcakes in an undulating line to form the body of the caterpillar. You can ice them any way you wish, each cupcake a different color, or all the same with letters spelling out the birthday child's name, or even with spots made of candies! The caterpillar's head will need eyes which can be made with chocolate circles and a dab of white icing.

For legs, you will need to cut strips of red or black licorice into 3" lengths and add 2 per cupcake, lying on the tray. You can add icing shoes if you like, just blobs at the end of each leg, but this isn't necessary. Two licorice antennae are a good touch as well! And there you have a very easy birthday cake that doesn't even need to be cut!

Lego Cake

To make this fun cake you will need to bake three rectangular layers. Put one on top of the other so you have a double layer, then use the third to make the "teeth" of your Lego cake. You will need to use a round cookie cutter, about 2.5-3" in diameter. Cut out 6 or 8 rounds, depending on the size of the cake.

Use icing to add the "teeth" to the top of your Lego block. This might be easier if you first ice the cake and the teeth separately, then attach and smooth the icing around the base of the teeth. Ice the cake in your child's favorite color.

Paw Print Cake

You need four cupcakes and a round cake layer for this birthday sweet. Simply ice them in chocolate icing (or in blue icing for Blue's Clue's prints) and set the round cake on a plate. Arrange the four cupcakes as toes at the top and you are ready to go!

As you can see, it is pretty easy to come up with a simple to make, great looking birthday cake that your child will be proud to eat! So don't let fear stop you, go ahead and get baking!

30th Birthday Cake Ideas - Make It Fun And Light

Celebrating 30th birthday can be so much different like when you were in your younger years. Most likely, you don't fancy with as much excitement when it comes to having 30th birthday cake ideas. After all, you believe fancy cakes are only for younger ladies and a lot younger boys. But why confiscate a birthday cake out of your party if it can set the celebration even more of a unique one? There are other 30-ish people that celebrate with fancy or simple cake ideas, so why not you?

Black icing is a favorite for birthday cake ideas. It is usually added with the favorite candle lights, but in this particular celebration, these are going to be numbers 3 and 0 shapes. For some, it is even more fun to make two cakes to accommodate those two numbers. For others, number candle lights are out of options. They simply have the numbers carved in each cake after taking out the oven to cool them. Adding frost and sprinkles in festive colors will finish the birthday cake.

Bakeries

The birthday cake can be integrated with a favorite theme that compliments the personality of the celebrant. For example, if he or she is fond of sports, sewing, magazines, clothes, shoes, and others, the cake can be decorated as inspired with a particular interest that the person celebrating the birthday has. Plastic or wax figures modeling a specific interest or hobby will do for the decoration. Be creative as you can and you will come up with the best cake idea that will surely tell who and what that person is like.

Gag gifts can be placed on the cake to create lighter fun of the celebration. For example, if the person is into cross-stitching you can add a needle and yarn on top of the cake as decorations. For more fun, you can add a rectangular piece that resembles a computer, and then add an inexpensive reading glasses on top as if you are warning the celebrant about the eye straining habit he has. It will make the celebrant feel much appreciated and acknowledged. The cake idea will also set that festive mood to kick off a celebration that would surely be remembered by everybody, and much more by the celebrant.

If there is no one to bake the cake idea, this can be easily ordered from bakery and confectionery shops. They usually provide cakes at various prices. You can instruct them how you want the cake to look like. Online bakeries are as well available. You can order from these dealers through the comfort of your home. There are many cake ideas and designs that are available online, so you can take time to select one that will best fit the celebration. You can also order a custom cake design by giving online staff instructions on the specifics you want out of it.

Planning a 21st Birthday Party

For most young adults - no birthday is more important that their 21st. If you have been asked to plan or host a party for a friend or relative that is turning 21, the following tips will help you plan and pull off a terrific 21st birthday party!

Send out invites a month in advance: Whether you send e-vites or mailed invitations, you want to invite your guests at least a month in advance to ensure that they save the date for your party. Both types of invitations are acceptable. Make sure that you provide the date, time, and location of the party on the invitation, as well as specific RSVP instructions. For example - provide the name of the person that recipients should contact as well as the preferred way of contacting them (email, phone, or both). Or, to make it simple for yourself and the guests, ask those invited to RSVP only if they are unable to attend.

Bakeries

Other things to include in the invitations if they pertain to your party:

  • If you do not want guests to bring gifts then make sure you state on the invitation "Please, no gifts" or "All we request you bring to the party is yourself".
  • Request for guests to bring something specific to the party - whether it is an picture of themselves with the guest of honor to make a collage, a dish to pass, or a 'beverage of choice' to give to the birthday boy or girl in honor of becoming 'legal'.
  • Directions to the party.

Decide on food and beverage to serve: Let's assume that your party is being held in a home or clubhouse type of setting - so no formal sit-down meal. Do you want to offer finger-type food that people will snack on all night long? Or will you offer a full meal buffet-style. Which ever you decide - make sure that you have enough to serve everyone - better to have too much than too little. Believe me, if there is food left over at the end of the party you will have plenty of guests that would love to volunteer to take it off your hands. Bring inexpensive disposable bags and containers so that you can easily pack up leftovers.

Make sure that you remember the plates, napkins, and utensils needed. Plates and napkins that feature a nice design on it are always nice and add a festive look to the presentation of the food- but it can be expensive. One option is to buy the plates and napkins in a solid color to save on costs. Or perhaps only splurge on the smaller, decorated 'Happy Birthday' dessert plates.
And a birthday cake is always a must - although now days 'cupcakes' are also the rage. Although bakeries may offer fancy varieties - they often come at with a hefty price tag. So if your budget is limited, don't hesitate to order a large cake from your supermarket or warehouse bakery. And if you have something special or unique in mind when it comes to how you would like the cake decorated - don't hesitate to ask them if they can accommodate you. I've seen supermarket bakeries do great "beer" and "cocktail" related decorations on their cakes. Remember to give them at least several days notice for your order.

As for the beverage - of course there must be a toast to the guest of honor at some point in the evening. Wine, beer, mixed drinks or champagne are all appropriate to toast with (as, of course, is any non-alcoholic beverage for those guests that prefer not to drink). Prior to the date of the party, decide who will be toasting the birthday boy or girl and asked them to prepare ahead of time a short toast. When he or she finishes with their toast - have them ask all guests to raise their drinks to the guest of honor.

For the rest of the night - make sure there is plenty of water and soda on hand. Lemonade or ice tea also go over well. As for alcoholic beverages - see what your budget allows. The "21" age group will probably be happy with just beer, however some of the older guests may prefer wine.

Ambiance: Although decorations aren't necessary - they do help set the stage for a festive get together. They can be as simple as a few balloons bouquets strategically placed throughout the room. Also - a balloon bouquet on each side of the entrance to the party shouts 'Party' and also makes it clear to guests that they have arrived at the right location. A few vases of fresh flowers are also a nice touch. Party supply stores have great "theme" decorating items (sports, beach, etc.) that can also add flair to the event.

Music also plays an important role. Should it just play in the background or does it have a major role in the event such as in the case of dance music? Think through the music choices ahead of time, as well as the sound system if the party is not being held in your home. Ahead of time assign one person responsibility for the music throughout the duration of the party. And remember - there's a whole slew of 'drinking' related songs out there (type in "songs about drinking" in a search bar and they'll be at your finger tips).

Do you want to play drinking games? If you only know of the same or two that everyone else knows just go to your favorite search page and type in "drinking games" and you'll have access to more games you ever thought were possible.

Always keep in mind the guest of honor when planning the party: Take into consideration the likes and dislikes of the celebrant throughout all of your planning. If he or she has a hobby, a favorite food, a favorite city - all these things might spark ideas of how to incorporate it into the party theme. For example let's say that the birthday boy is a sports fanatic. You can send out 'sport ticket' invitations to the party and decorate in his favorite team's color. Or the birthday girl has a favorite singer - you would want to make sure that songs from that artist are included in the party's music mix. Or perhaps she's a chocoholic. Make sure the birthday cake is chocolate fudge and hand out take-home gift bags with her favorite candy.

A little bit of up-front planning can save you time, hassle and money in the long run.

30th Birthday Cake Ideas

The most common theme for 30th birthday cakes is poking fun at the birthday boy or girl for getting "old!" An over the hill cake communicates to them that they are not as young as they used to be. By using black icing, you give the cake a grim and mournful appearance that says, "you are one more year closer to death."

Another old standby is to make two cakes in the shapes of the numbers "3" and "0". Start with a regular cake mix. Divide it into two parts, as you would when making a two-layer cake. And then carve each number out of each cake once it is cool from the oven. Frost them with festive colors and sprinkles and maybe a few candles.

Cake

Everyone has a hobby or personal interest like golf, sewing or just watching TV. Decorate your 30th Birthday cake with that theme. You can buy plastic figures playing golf and ice your cake to look like a putting green. You can make thread with a thin icing dispenser and a spool by icing a large marshmallow for the one who likes to sew. Or use the shape of a rectangular cake pan to form the screen of a TV or computer and write with icing "Warning, can cause eye strain" on the cake, with an inexpensive pair of reading glasses as a gag gift.

Perhaps a gift you would like to give the person turning 30 is a scap book of childhood pictures. You can make the cake look like the cover of a scrapbook with a photocopy picture of the person as a child in the center of the cake. Use an icing decorating dispenser to create a border around the picture. This will hold the picture on the cake, as well.

Popular today are cakes with a smooth surface. You may wonder how to create such a look with the icings that are available in your grocery store. The secret is simple: you don't use icing, you use marshmallow cream. You can buy the cream in a jar, or with water, melt some marshmallows in the microwave until they become like icing. Put in your favorite food coloring. And this type of icing is easy to apply to a cake a create that sleek surface that an expensive cake will have. The marshmallow icing is also easy to apply different colors in a pattern like stripes or diamonds.

50th Birthday Cake Ideas

With a cake-decorating project for a 50th birthday party you could have all kinds of fun with unique ideas.

For the very talented cake decorator, and with the help of a couple special cake pans, a cake in the shape of two feet with a toe tag attached would be a complete riot at any birthday party.

Cake

No 50th birthday party would be complete without the old cliché about being over the hill. So, why not a hill shaped cake? With a little imagination and quite a bit of brown and green icing it should be too difficult to create. It would be fun to find cake toppers in different age stages to place along a path going up one side of the hill and down the other.

For the tamer at heart, a lovely double cake in the shapes of a five and a zero would make a stunning showstopper. Specialty restaurant stores, and maybe even your local party store will have the right cake pans to pull off this cake.

How about a cake in the shape of an open book? The dates of certain life stages could be inscribed in icing across the "pages" of the top of this interesting 50th birthday cake. Special things to note would be birth, marriages, children's births and special vacations or memories.

Did you know that computers can now take the image of an old photograph and apply it in icing to the top of a cake? Wouldn't that make an interesting 50th Birthday cake with an old baby photo, or other cute or funny image from the person of honor's past.

For a touch of the maudlin, the supply store can even outfit you with a cake pan in the shape of a coffin! Red velvet cake would be a hilarious addition when the coffin was cut into. Outfit it with black icing and gold trim and one could have themselves a ghoulish 50th Birthday cake.

60th Birthday Cake Ideas That You Will Love

So someone's turning 60! Wouldn't that be reason enough to celebrate? You think of a theme, plan the menu, and try to find the best birthday cake for him or her. More often than not, the problem lies in finding cake designs, since there are fewer cake ideas as a person gets older. Here are some 60th birthday cake ideas that you can choose from.

Instead of the usual 1 big cake, why not make two or three smaller ones of different sizes, and then stack them up according to size. You can make a two-tiered round cake and decorate it with icing figures of her favorite flowers. Or you can use white fondant icing and place small colored icing fruits around it. You can also use fresh flowers or glazed fruits to decorate the cake. Just be sure to advise guests if the decorations are inedible.

Cake

You can also bake two rectangular or square cakes of different sizes. Cover them with fondant icing so they would look like wrapped gifts, complete with ribbons and wrapping paper. With white icing, you can make a small name card at a corner and write "Happy Birthday" on it to make it look like a real present. Place the smaller cake on top of the other, at any angle, for a more interesting effect.

For him, you can create a cake with champagne bottle design. Some white icing can be placed on the bottle opening to simulate foam. You can also find designs from his interests. A golf lover would like a birthday cake with golf clubs as design. If he is fond of collecting vintage cars, a cake in the shape of a vintage car would be interesting.

Remember that the birthday cake design must also depend on the personality of the celebrant. For a person who commands respect and authority, his birthday cake must also reflect the same. Instead of the usual colorful icing, create a simple yet elegant birthday cake by decorating it with gold or silver icing in classic designs.

There are many 60th birthday cake ideas that you can think of. All you need is a little patience, and lots of imagination. What matters is that you are able to make someone's birthday really special and memorable. As he approaches the golden years of his life, be thankful of every year that he gets to spend with you. So by the time that someone in your family turns 60, finding the design and throwing in a party would be a piece of cake.

How to Make a Personalized Birthday Cake

When a birthday comes by, one of the most exciting parts of the celebration is the birthday cake, especially for children's birthday parties. They are a great way to make your child feel special and make their birthday memorable. Nowadays, there are many different cakes for you to choose from so that you can make a cake for your child.

If you want to make your own cake from scratch, then plan it out a few weeks before you need it. Look for different recipes and find the best one. If there is time, make a test of a recipe or two. Search for tips and techniques to make a great cake. Organize all of your ingredients when you are going to cook the cake for the birthday party. Bake early so that you have enough time to bake, cool, decorate, and rest. Chilling the cake can make it easier to slice.

Bakery

When decorating a birthday cake, whether you made it yourself or not, there are several things that you have to remember. Firstly, find a color scheme or theme for your cake. This will make decorating more organized and a lot easier. Make sure that the icing and the writing on the cake do not clash with each other in terms of color, and that you have a writing tube for decorations. Be sure to leave space in your decorating for any writing you want. You can get decorative icing tubes that create designs like leaves and lines with ease. Flowers are a bit more complicated, but follow the instructions and pictures you can find on creating icing flowers and you may just surprise yourself at what you can do. It is okay if your flowers do not look like a professional bakery's: you don't want everyone to think you purchased your cake. You want everyone to know that you went to the trouble to make it homemade. You can practice using decorative icing on a plate and then when you are certain of your skill, apply the decorative icing to your cake.

Find decorations that match with the color and theme of your cake. Try to make the theme something that your child will enjoy. You can also put non-edible decorations on the cake, as long as they aren't unsafe for the children or small enough to be choked on, or are all carefully removed before serving the cake. Bakery decorations that go on a bakery-made cake can be a little pricey but are well themed and can be purchased from bakeries without buying the cake. Also, why not check out your local discount store for small toys or party favors that can double as cake decorations?

Aside from the decorations, the taste of the birthday cake is very important. The birthday celebrant's favorite flavor should be used for the cake. Don't forget that the filling can be a different flavor than the frosting if you desire, and jams or sliced fruit like strawberries in the filling may be a treat. A good cake is moist and light and flavorful. Getting a flavor that the birthday boy or girl likes and that everyone can enjoy is a way to make the cake perfect. You can also change the color of the cake itself with food coloring in the batter. This will make the cake more interesting to look at. You can decorate with small candies or chocolate chips to add to the flavor as well.

There are many different shapes and sizes that birthday cakes come in. You can make a round birthday cake, or a square birthday cake, or a birthday cake in the shape of a heart. There are so many ways to customize a birthday cake, so don't be limited to what you see in stores. Make something totally unique and special. Follow these tips and you'll be able to create a great birthday cake. Also, don't forget to buy the candles!

Birthday Cake Ideas For Your Man

Any birthday party, no matter how lavish, is incomplete without a cake. While it is more common to see birthday cake ideas for women and children, there are birthday cake ideas for men as well. After all, men blow their birthday candles too.

The first thing to consider in choosing a cake design is the age of the celebrant. The younger he is, the more designs are available for him. You can choose from his toys - baseball bat, train, truck, dinosaur and other animals, among others. As he gets older, you can choose designs from things that interest him. You can create a superhero, GI Joe, or other comic book or cartoon character theme.

Cake

Surprisingly, the interest in cartoons does not seem to wane as a boy gets older. Some adolescent and young adult men develop interest for Japanese animation. You can create a design from his favorite character. Others who love online computer games would also like his cake with his favorite character or player as design. For the comic book lover, a photo of his favorite comic book can be used as design. For a sports car or race driving enthusiast, choose a sports car design for his birthday cake.

You can also use his favorite sport as inspiration for the design. If he loves basketball, he would love a cake that looks like a basketball court, complete with basketball rings and his favorite player as toppers. For a diver or surfer, an underwater theme cake with sand, seashells and fish designs would be perfect for him. If he likes to play golf, a cake design consisting of a golf bag with clubs would be nice.

The design can also be based on his profession. For example, if he is a judge, a cake that resembles a gavel can be used. If he is an artist or painter, a colorful palette and paint brushes would make an interesting design. A violin or guitar-shaped cake can be made correspondingly for a violinist and guitarist celebrant. If he is a pilot, a cake in the shape of an airplane would be cute.

For the health-conscious man, you can bake a low or non-fat birthday cake. A carrot cake is a delightful healthy option. Ingredients can be substituted to make decorations that are fat-free and sugar-free. This is good news especially if the celebrant or some guests are diabetic. On the other hand, there are others who prefer to add some alcohol in the cake to give it a "kick."

There are boundless of birthday cake ideas for men that you can choose from. What is important is to know what the celebrant likes, his interests and style. With that in mind, you can choose the perfect birthday cake for him.

PARTY CAKE CONCEPT AND DESIGN

Cake

The most important kid birthday cake idea is choosing a cake concept which fits with your party theme. You can start with a simple sheet cake topped with small toys or figures, or piece the cake itself to form a unique design.

For example, a Construction Party cake could be topped with tiny toy dumptrucks and bulldozers pushing a chocolate chip mountain. Or, the cake itself could be cut, pieced and frosted to look like a dump truck.

For a Train Party, set a miniature choo-choo train on licorice tracks atop your cake, or line up several brightly colored frosted loaf cakes to form train cars.

For a Luau party, a simple round or sheet cake can be festooned with a silk flower lei, or form a string of cupcakes in a circle and adorn each one with silk or frosting flowers. Connect with a licorice string to make a cupcake "lei".

Baking cakes in an oven-safe glass bowl or in a special 3D sports ball pan is great for making any kind of perfectly round ball cake, or the dress part of a Barbie doll cake. A wonder mold cake pan makes small single serving doll cakes and other cute creations!

Think of the design you'd like to make and what shapes you need to make it - round, sheet, loaf, cupcakes, or a combination.

Peruse cake decorating books for a kid birthday cake idea which fits your needs. Many books provide templates forcutting and piecing cakes to create any number of popular designs. You decide just how simple or challenging your cake will be.

For a no-fuss kid birthday cake idea, apply an edible cake art image to the top of a frosted cake. Many popular themes and copyrighted images such as Disney are available to provide a professional looking cake design.

Themed cake pans are another popular cake decorating option. They provide the shape and visual design to follow for an impressive finished cake. Popular TV and cartoons characters are well represented in cake pans, as well as teddy bears, butterflies, pirates, Tigger,Mickey Mouse, and lots more.

FROSTING CHOICES

Homemade Frosting - Dig up that famous family recipe or check out one of the many online recipe sites and make your cake frosting from scratch. Be sure to plan ahead how much of each color will be needed for both basic foundation and decorative trim.

Canned and Tube Frostings - Easiest and quickest, prepared canned frostings are available in grocery stores in the baking aisle with the cake mixes. They generally come in white, chocolate, and a handful of other popular flavors. Keep a few ready-to-use tube frostings on hand in various basic colors to add the finishing touches.

Fondant Frosting - Gaining in popularity in this country in recent years, fondant frosting gives a beautiful smooth finish to your cake decorating creation. Fondant can be rolled out and draped over a cake, poured on as a glaze, or sculpted into shapes. It is easily tinted, and can be flavored as well. Ready-made fondant is available through party supply outlets. There are also many recipes online for homemade fondant.

CAKE DECORATING WITH CANDY AND SMALL TOYS

Cookies, candies, and other materials can be used for special and impressive effects. Frosted sugar cones can serve as the fins on a space ship cake or the turrets on a castle cake. Make a surprise cake filling with jello.

A wide variety of plastic stand-ups or cake toppers are available in craft stores. Or, simply use a toy which fits in with the party theme as a cake topper and give it to the party child when the party is over. Action figures, small dolls, animals and cartoon characters all make good choices.

Add cool candy accents with M & M's, licorice pieces, licorice whips, animal crackers, oreo cookies, paper umbrellas, pretzel sticks, tootsie rolls, jimmies, gummies such as worms, bears, etc, gumdrops, mini marshmallows, colored coconut, jellybeans.

Have fun!

Birthday Cake

It's nice that people remember the day you were born. After all, it is a very special day. For most of us, there is always someone ready to throw a birthday party. Whether it be Mom and Dad, or darling husband or wife, or anyone else, one of the best treats on anyone's birthday is a birthday cake with candles. Because what would a birthday be without a cake and candles for making a birthday wish?

Birthday cakes come in all shapes and sizes - round, square, layered, tiered, upside-down, and many, many more. They also come in some very unique shapes like trucks, babies, guitars, shoes, and so on. Birthday cakes can be just fun and simple or quite elegant and complex. They can be chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mocha, a mix of all of the above, or other flavors.

Cake

Theme cakes are very popular for children's birthdays. Harry Potter's, Hogwarts Castle, Barbie's, Pegasus, and Sponge Bob and Patrick are in high demand at most parties these days. Chocolate cake seems to be the favorite, followed by the classic chiffon cake. Of course, any good host will top off the birthday cake with a heaping spoon of ice cream and sprinkles and lots of love and best wishes.

Even with all the streamers, the balloons, the presents, and so on, birthday cakes remain the centerpiece. More than anything else, the birthday cake with delightfully burning candles all round it and your name in icing on the top, remains the most enduring symbol of a birthday celebration.
